Why You Should Be Kind To Yourself

At several times in your life, when you made mistakes, do you say to yourself "Boy was I stupid" or "I’m a loser and I think I’ll always be." Is this what’s going on in your mind? Is this your internal dialog when you made a major boo boo? The key here is be kind to yourself. Recognize your strengths and weaknesses and accept your temporary failure. Human beings are not perfect. We will always be making mistakes. Now, if we reject ourselves when we are messing up, we are only being a "fair weather" friend to ourselves. How would you like to have a friend who is so good to you when you are rich and disappears when we are broke and in trouble? You wouldn’t want to have a friend like that would you? So that’s how you are to yourself when you acknowledge your strengths and triumphs, but you don’t accept your weaknesses and failures…..you are a fair weather friend to yourself. We shouldn’t have to be our own worst critic. We have to consistently squelch self cr...

Zeroing In On Self Discipline

“He who conquers his self is mightier than he who conquers a city.” I forgot who said that line but the message stuck with me. It means have control over yourself first before you can have control over other things outside of yourself.. Private victories precede public victories. It all starts within you. Self- discipline and self control are major components if you want to master yourself. Self-mastery is a pre-requisite to transforming yourself into changed and better individual. The words self discipline and self control are enough to make you cringe. It means deprivation. It means loss of freedom. Sacrifice. Delayed gratification . But think of the rewards when you are able to discipline yourself. It’s enough to get you motivated. What separates the winners from the average people is that the winners reach a level of self-mastery accomplished through self discipline. Winners do not lose heart and become devastated by their misfortunes. They don’t become slaves to bad habits. They...

“Test Your Can’ts”

“ I can’t function.” “I can’t focus.” At one time or another we have all been afflicted with this kind of negative thinking. Especially when we feel an occasional bouts of the “blues” or worse yet experienced profound depression. We tend to feel lethargic and we procrastinate. If we say, “I can’t” over and over often enough it becomes like a self-fulfilling prophecy and as a result we start believing these self-defeating thought patterns. And the more we don nothing and become more immobilize the more we will be pre-occupied with a flood of negative and destructive thoughts. Consequently, we hate ourselves for being inactive and inadequate. A loser. It’s a vicious cycle. We have to break the chain link of this endless cycle. We can overcome pessimistic attitudes, procrastination and depression and change into some active, enthusiastic, happy and accomplished person. The kind of person we want to become. The person who makes things happened. A winner. We can do this by testing our “can’...

Following Through And Completing What You Start

Completion is natural. In the natural order of things and human life there is beginning, middle and an end. People who can consistently complete or finish what they start have power. Not all people can put their ideas into practice and even fewer people continue and follow through on to completion. Completion is the act that empowers you to fully tap and actualize your abilities, talents and the capability to love. The completion of a cycle is the beginning point for the next energy flow. The more energy that flows through you, the more you participate in life. When we don’t complete our tasks, the energy wanders with no point on which to settle and reflect itself back to you. As a consequence, we experience depletion of energy. In our lives we simply cannot just exist and just get by. We have to live it. The way to live our lives, is to demand upon our inner resources that expand us as a person. We must learn to acquire the habit to always follow through to completion whatever goals...
