Is Winning Necessary To Happiness?

Time is a fixed commodity. Which means you have limits as to what you can accomplish in a lifetime.

It’s wise to decide which objectives are most important to your happiness and it is recommended that you prioritize. You can’t be a renowned author at the same time strive to be a grandmaster at chess. Nor you can’t place an equal value on becoming a notorious playboy, a gourmet chef and an empire builder all at the same time.

Although it is possible to be a seven time bodybuilding champion, a box office action star and a famous politician at several stages in your lifetime. But that’s another story.

Winning all the time isn’t everything. If your objective is to have a relaxing, enjoyable round of golf on a sunday afternoon, you don’t have to force a hole in one. Just play, relax and enjoy.

A true ‘champion” doesn’t have to be a jack of all trades. They are exceptional in their fields, yet they are unsophisticated in other aspects. They spend so much time polishing their particular talents and skills that frequently they remain undeveloped in areas that are not work related.

A true champion knows that it is neither possible nor necessary to cover the entire waterfront of information. Rather they focus their energies on becoming specialists.

We can not do it all and we do not have to be good at everything.

You don’t have to be king in all kingdoms. No one can be all things at all times to all people. Nor it is a prerequisite. When we doubt ourselves, remember that even a true champion have limitations and are usually skilled within a very narrow range and that is only within their field.

When you have identified your personal endowments and abilities, you specialize.

Choose a field of activity where you can achieve more than thousands of others. Nobody can know everything, but even the least gifted will become accomplished in something if given time . A case in point, Lance Armstrong is a good triathlete but decided to concentrate only on cycling. He won the tour de france seven times.

We must stop being tense and out of breathe in trying to be jack of all trades. Relax, enjoy, be happy and specialize.

One of my favorite quotes related to this subject is “ If you want to raise prize winning roses, you don’t need to raise petunias.”
